Meet the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin

Dolphins are among the ocean’s most agile and intelligent mammals. Living in social pods, they rely on specialized physical and sensory adaptions to thrive.

Natural “X-Ray” Vision

Specialized air sacs project echolocation waves to pinpoint objects and hidden prey through ocean currents.

Blowhole Breathing

As air-breathing mammals, dolphins surface every 1–2 minutes in our sanctuary waters to take a breath.

Precision Steering

A distinct dorsal fin acts as a stabilizer and rudder, preventing rolling during high-speed leaps and sharp turns.

Complex Communication

Whistles, clicks, and physical cues form a sophisticated language that strengthens pod bonds.

Animals in this Exhibit

• Inshore Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).
• Native Caribbean Reef Fishes & Invertebrates.

Fun Fact! Dolphins are very social. They often live and travel together in groups called pods.

Respecting Our Ocean Neighbors

Spanning 69,000 square feet in Water Bay, our sanctuary exceeds federal animal welfare standards, giving dolphins space to explore, rest, and engage in natural behaviors. Through positive reinforcement training that emphasizes the importance of giving each animal opportunities to make their own choices, our animal care specialists build strong bonds with each sea lion to support their voluntary medical care and mental stimulation. Through hands-on education, immersive experiences, and our sister nonprofit Coral World Ocean and Reef Initiative (CWORI), we foster deep respect and appreciation for marine ecosystems and the life they support
